What are Group Chats?
Group chats are an area where you are able to hold conversations with many other people. These can be created as public group chats which can be discovered using the "Discover Communities" function, or private group chats which would be invite only.
How do I join a Group Chat?
On the client itself, you should see a "Group Chats" tab. If you click on the "magnifying glass" icon, this will take you to the "Discover Communities" section.
This will take you to this particular screen:
In the above example, I'm currently in the "Beta Test[English]" group chat, but I'm not currently in the other displayed group chats. Once you find a group chat that you're interested in, all you have to do is click on group chat you would like to join and you can start chatting with the community.
How do I create a Group Chat?
You can find this in the same area as when you tried to find a group chat.Click on the "plus sign" icon and then you should be presented with this:
This is mostly straightforward. The first decision you need to make is should this be a public group chat or a private group.
- If you choose this to be a public group chat, then anyone can join the community if they find your group chat and join it.
- If this is a private group chat, then it can't be discovered. To invite more people, yourself or users with the correct permissions would need to invite specific users to join.
Under settings, this is where you will give your group chat a name, a topic and this will automatically generate a public address for you (which can be changed if you prefer).
For private group chats only, you can also choose if this should have "end-to-end Encryption" or not.
Before creating the group chat, you can also invite existing contacts to your group chat as well. You can either checkmark all of the users you want to invite, or if you have a large contacts list, you can also use the filter contacts option to speed up your search.
Once you're happy with everything, click on:
Now you should have your very own group chat which will now show under your group chats tab.
