On TeamSpeak V5, you will first need to make sure that you are connected to the server where you are looking to modify the permissions for the server.
There is three ways to enter the permissions area:
1) When you join the server, this should appear within your personal activity area which is normally just underneath the search bar. If you right click on the server name which has populated, you should now be able to select "show permissions".
2) You can also right click on the server name at the top of the server on the main screen which should also populate "show permissions".
3) You can left click on the server name at the top of the server on the main screen and then click on this
This should now take you to the "Permission Groups" area where you can see two things:
1) Server Groups (Permissions surrounding this would take function anywhere on the server)
2) Channel Groups (Permissions surrounding this would only function in set scenarios where users are in a channel and the group is assigned or active as an example).
Ideally you would setup multiple server and channel groups depending on how you would like the server to run. Who can do X, who shouldn't do X, does Y override X and so on. Every server is different so it will take some time to decide how best this should run for your server in particular, however it should also be noted that you don't have to use every single permission that is at your disposal. We'd always recommend using the permissions that best suits your needs, perhaps start off basic and then work your way up once you gain more of a grasp on what each of the permissions do and how these would benefit your setup.
Once you have your groups, if you then click on any of the groups you have, now you should have visibility of the permissions on offer to your server.
The area's this cover are:
1) Virtual Server - This covers topics like the virtual server information, administration or settings.
2) Channel - This focuses on channel information, creation, modifications, access and also the ability to delete channels.
3) Group - This is essentially the same as the above, but with groups in mind.
4) Client - This focuses more on individual user access. What can your users do in your server.
5) File Transfer - Who can use this functionality within the server.
There is also 3 types of permission that you will need to consider:
1) Boolean - These permissions can only have two values, so basically yes or no.
2) Integer - These permissions accept numbers as values. Usually used to define limits such as the maximum number of connected clones (clients with the same identity) or the maximum size of upload files to name a couple of examples.
3) Power - These permissions are a special type of integer permission. They always come in pairs of "Power" and "Needed Power" and these permissions control whether or not a user is allowed to perform a specific action by comparing their own "power" with the targets "needed power".
At first this may seem overwhelming with all the options that you have at your disposal, but once you start with the basics and then work your way up, you'll soon discover how useful permissions can be.
If you have any specific questions about permissions, how they work, or if you're just looking for inspiration from other server owners and their own setups, feel free to post on our forums and the staff and community veterans can help you out wherever possible.
