What does the option "Auto Gain Control" (ACG) do?

Auto Gain Control effectively reduces the volume if the signal is strong and raises it when it is weaker.

For example, without AGC the sound would vary to an extreme extent from a weak signal to a strong signal. With ACG this is normalized.
