What are rooms?
Rooms are an area where you are able to hold group chats. These can be created as public rooms which can be discovered using the "Find Room" function, or private rooms which would be invite only.
How do I join a room?
On the client itself, you should see a "Rooms" tab. If you click on the "find room" icon, this will take you to the "Discover Communities" section.
This will take you to this particular screen:
In the above example, I'm currently in the "Beta Test" and "Beta Test [DE]" rooms, but I'm not currently in the other displayed rooms. Once you find a room that you're interested in, all you have to do is click on "Join room" which is in the bottom right of every room card and then you have joined and can start chatting with the group.
How do I create a room?
You can find this in the same area as when you tried to find a room. Click on the "create room" icon and then you should be presented with this:
This is mostly straightforward. The first decision you need to make is should this be a public room or a private room.
- If you choose this to be a public room, then anyone can join the group if they find your room and join it.
- If this is a private room, then it can't be discovered. To invite more people, yourself or users with the correct permissions would need to invite specific users to join.
Under settings, this is where you will give your room a name, a topic and this will automatically generate a public address for you (which can be changed if you prefer).
For private rooms only, you can also choose if this should have "end-to-end Encryption" or not.
Before creating the room, you can also invite existing contacts to your new room as well. You can either checkmark all of the users you want to invite, or if you have a large contacts list, you can also use the filter contacts option to speed up your search.
Once you're happy with everything, click on:
Now you should have your very own room which will now show under your rooms tab.
